Description
CareLink Community Support Services has current openings for a Certificed Peer Specialist at our Golf Club program in West Chester, PA. For over 60 years, CareLink Community Support Services has been dedicated to helping people with disabilities to live in the community with dignity and independence. Our rehabilitation services and professional staff provide the supports that people with serious mental illness, physical disabilities and other developmental challenges need to be active, productive members of their communities.

This position is responsible for providing peer support services in residential and community settings.  This position will provide supportive counseling, advocacy, education and problem solving. In addition, this position will assist participant in developing goals, natural supports and wellness skills.This

 
Available Shifts:

16 hours per week, Hours/days to be determined some weekend and/or evening hours required.

Salary Range:

  • $15.00/hour
Qualifications:
  •   1. High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred
      2. Two years experience paid or voluntary working in human services with individuals with disabilities
      3. Successful completion of Certified Peer Specialist training program approved by the PA State Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
      4. CPRP preferred
      5. Knowledge of basic principles of rehabilitation and recovery
      6. Demonstrated efforts at self-directed recovery
      7. Committed to participant choice and empowerment
      8. Motivation, interest and ability to work empathetically with people with disabilities
      9. Ability to work independently required
    10. Strong written and verbal communication skills
    11. Ability to take direction
    12. Ability to make sound judgments regarding the health/welfare of participant required
    13. Valid PA driver’s license is required.
    14. Ability to handle and maintain confidential information required
    15. Training and experience as a Wellness Recovery Action Plan facilitator preferred

Essential Functions:
  1.   1. Provides peer support services to participants in residential and community settings either individually or in group settings
      2. Lead, or provide support and training to a participant in leading, community meetings.
      3. Assists participants in the identification and development of personal goals, including interventions to meet goals
      4. Provides support to participants to increase natural supports and community resources
      5. Works with participants to develop Psychiatric Advance Directives (PAD)
      6. Provides advocacy services as needed to insure participants receive necessary care
      7. Educates participants about advocacy opportunities and issues
      8. Model self-empowerment and self responsibility as a core recovery oriented principle guiding all aspects of service delivery
      9. Attends appointments with participants as requested to provide support and advocacy
    10. Conducts regular psycho-educational groups for participants and/or families
